Hold on to your popcorn! Get ready for a wave of highly anticipated movies hitting theaters in the coming years. From J.J. Abrams' return to the big screen to the expansion of the ever-popular 'Conjuring' universe, there's a lot to be excited about.
First up, Warner Bros. just dropped some major release date bombshells! J.J. Abrams, the visionary behind recent 'Star Wars' installments, is back with a brand new project slated for Imax theaters this fall. Titled "The Great Beyond," this film stars the dynamic duo of Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega. Mark your calendars for November 13th, because that's when Abrams' directorial comeback since 2019's "Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker" explodes onto the scene. Abrams not only directed but also penned the script and produced the film alongside Tommy Gormley. Adding even more star power, the ensemble cast includes Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Merritt Wever, and the legendary Samuel L. Jackson.
But the release date announcements don't stop there. Fast forward to 2027, and Warner Bros. has two more cinematic treats in store. Sam Esmail, known for his visually stunning and suspenseful style, is teaming up with Julia Roberts once again for "Panic Carefully," scheduled for release in Imax theaters on February 26th, 2027. This marks another collaboration between Esmail and Roberts, following their success with the Prime Video series "Homecoming," the Starz show "Gaslit," and the Netflix movie "Leave the World Behind." The cast is brimming with talent, featuring Eddie Redmayne, Brian Tyree Henry, Ben Chaplin, Aidan Gillen, Joe Alwyn, Naledi Murray, and Elizabeth Olsen alongside Roberts. Esmail and Roberts are also producing the movie with Scott Stuber, Chad Hamilton, Marisa Yeres Gill and Lisa Gillan.
Then, on August 13th, 2027, get ready for an adrenaline-pumping, yet-to-be-titled collaboration between Tim Miller (director of "Deadpool") and Keanu Reeves. Details are still shrouded in mystery, but the initial logline hints at a wild ride. The story apparently revolves around "a smuggler caught in a mysterious time loop must survive both bloodthirsty mercenaries and sharks in Caribbean waters, repeating the same deadly day until he finds a way out.β Miller is directing from a script penned by Ian Shorr. Matthew Vaughn, Aaron Ryder, Andrew Swett and John Zaozirny are producing.
And this is the part most people miss... While these big-budget releases are generating buzz, horror fans have something to scream about in the nearer future! New Line Cinema is adding another chapter to the chilling "Conjuring" saga. "The Conjuring: First Communion" is set to haunt theaters on September 10th. This prequel, directed by Rodrigue Huart and written by Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, further expands the sprawling "Conjuring" universe, which has already grossed a staggering $2.7 billion worldwide. The franchise is showing no signs of slowing down, with the most recent installment, "The Conjuring: Last Rites," becoming the highest-grossing film in the series, raking in nearly $495 million globally.
But here's where it gets controversial... Given the massive success of the "Conjuring" franchise, do you think prequels are the right way to continue the story? Or are they simply capitalizing on the brand recognition? And with so many release dates announced so far in advance, do you think these dates are set in stone, or are we likely to see changes down the line? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
