The acclaimed romantic comedy, Waitress, will grace the stage at the Liverpool Empire Theatre as part of its 10th anniversary tour.

Waitress narrates the compelling journey of Jenna Hunterson, a talented pie baker employed at a quaint diner. Jenna finds herself ensnared in an unhappy and emotionally abusive marriage while grappling with an unexpected pregnancy. To cope with her challenging situation, she channels her creativity into making unique pies and relies on the strong support system provided by her friends and co-workers, Becky and Dawn.

The story takes a hopeful turn when Jenna decides to enter a pie-baking contest, igniting her aspirations for change and independence. As the plot unfolds, Jenna deals with complex relationships, including a surprising romantic connection with her doctor, all while embarking on a path of self-discovery and learning the importance of self-worth.

At its core, the musical is a powerful celebration of resilience, female empowerment, and the bonds of friendship, emphasizing the courage it takes to start anew.

In a delightful twist, the role of Joe, the diner owner where Jenna works, will be portrayed by the beloved Scouse actor Les Dennis. Additionally, Sandra Marvin will reprise her role as Becky, bringing her experience from previous performances in both the West End and touring productions of Waitress. Further cast announcements are expected soon.

This production is based on the 2007 film penned by Adrienne Shelly and features a score composed by the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, along with a book written by Jessie Nelson. The show is directed by the Tony Award winner Diane Paulus and choreographed by Lorin Latarro, with both the UK and US productions having received numerous accolades and nominations.

Celebrating a decade since its inception, Waitress first opened on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on April 24, 2016, and ran until January 5, 2020. It made its West End debut at London’s Adelphi Theatre on March 7, 2019.

The show has achieved remarkable international success, with productions staged across North America, Japan, the Netherlands, a French-language version in Canada, a Spanish-language rendition in Mexico, and an Australian production set to launch in Melbourne and Sydney in spring 2026.
